Fit Tip 101: Hydration

One of the best tips I can give for living a healthier lifestyle is HYDRATION. This is something my mom has ingrained in my head since I was kid and it definitely makes a huge difference and how we feel and function.

60% of our bodies are made up of water is it is important that we are staying hydrated to ensure our bodies are functioning properly. Proper hydration improves mood, increases energy, promotes weight loss, and helps to keep us healthy. So here are some of my favorite tips to help make sure you are getting enough water in daily!

Tips for Getting Enough Water in Daily

Know Your Water Goal

The key to making sure you are getting enough water is KNOWING how much water you should be drinking. The general rule of thumb I like to follow is at least half of my body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 140 pounds you should be drinking AT LEAST 70 ounces of water a day.

Once you know how much water you should be consuming, you are one step closer to hitting your goal!

Track your intake daily

Once you have your goal, tracking how you are doing daily is key to ensuring you are on track. It helps you know how you are doing and encourages you to drink more throughout the day.

I like to use the FitBit app to track my water, since I have a Fitbit it keeps all of my data in one place. I believe you can still track your water with the Fitbit app if you do not have a device. You can download the app here.

Before I had my Fitbit, I used the Plant Nanny app which is a fun way to track your water. When you finish a cup/bottle you “water your plant” and if you forgot to water you plant for a few days, your plant “dies”. You can download Plant Nanny here.

Add Fruit

If you struggle with drinking water because you think it tastes bland / boring, try adding some fruit! It adds some flavor and has amazing health benefits. My personal favorite it adding lemon to my water. It tastes delicious and helps remove toxins from my body.

Get a Cute Water Bottle

This one might sound silly, but I promise it helps! If you have a cup or water bottle that you like, it helps you drink more. You’ll want to bring it with you more and you’ll feel better about drinking out of it. I like to get my water bottles from Target and Meijer. I also like to decorate them with decals from Crafty Little Farmhouse. You’ll be surprised how much adding personality to your water bottle will help you drink more!

Set Timed Drinking Goals

Last tip! One that really helps to keep me on track is having timed drinking goals. Essentially I tell myself I need to have 90 ounces of water drank by 3 PM. Then, I get at least another 30 ounces in before I go to bed. This helps me because it gives me something to shoot for so I’m not getting home and realizing I haven’t drank any water.

Everyone’s days are different, so you’ll have to find a timing schedule that works for you, but I generally shoot to drink 30 ounces by 10 AM, another 30 ounces by lunch, and then 30 more by 3 PM, and lastly 30 to 60 more before bed.
